A man has been incarcerated after offering a woman a ride home and subsequently raping her in a hotel room. Seyi Odeyemi proposed driving the victim from Camden, London, to her residence for half the cost of a taxi fare; however, he transported her to a hotel situated near Northfleet, Kent, instead. According to police statements, the woman seemed semi-conscious before Odeyemi forcibly moved her to a room and committed rape. On Thursday at Maidstone Crown Court, the 23-year-old individual received a sentence of 10 years and six months in prison. Furthermore, he will be subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for a duration of 20 years, must register as a sex offender indefinitely, and will be mandated to complete an extra five years on licence following his release. Police reported that subsequent to the incident on 3 September 2023, the woman awoke disoriented beside an unfamiliar man. After confiding in a friend about her experience, she reported the matter to the police, leading to Odeyemi’s arrest on 7 September. It was determined that Odeyemi was under a Sexual Risk Order at the time of the occurrence and had violated its terms. Odeyemi, residing in Willesborough, near Ashford, faced charges of rape and contravening the order. Despite pleading not guilty, he was found guilty on both charges. Detective Constable James Lake described Odeyemi as a “sexual predator” who subjected the victim to an “appalling ordeal.” “He undoubtedly belongs in jail,” stated Mr. Lake.
