An individual has been found responsible for multiple break-ins at the venue described as the “world’s oldest” surviving music hall. According to police, Settle Victoria Hall experienced seven intrusions since 24 September, resulting in the theft of money and merchandise. On Monday, Wayne Harvey, aged 35, who has no fixed address, appeared before York Magistrates’ Court, where he was charged with burglary. Harvey received a community order, encompassing 20 days of rehabilitation activities, and was mandated to pay £180 in compensation. Inspector Julie Earnshaw of North Yorkshire Police commented that the apprehension represented a “fantastic result” for Victoria Hall, given that it had been “repeatedly targeted.” “The offender targeted the office, stealing the takings from shows, making a huge impact on the small venue,” she added. Victoria Hall, a Grade II listed structure, commenced operations as a music hall in 1853, preceding Wiltons’ Music Hall in London by five years.
