An individual has been imprisoned following a “horrific” assault where he used a hockey stick, leaving his victim in a critical state. Andrew McMinn, aged 32, arrived at Abbey Road, Dunscroft, Doncaster, on 17 July, having cycled there while holding the stick. During daylight hours, he repeatedly struck the victim seven times on the head, chest, and torso, inflicting injuries that were life-threatening, subsequently escaping from the location. McMinn, whose address is York Road, Dunscroft, received an eight-year prison sentence at Sheffield Crown Court on Wednesday. This followed his guilty plea at a prior hearing to charges of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and possessing an offensive weapon in a public area. Detective Constable Katie McCreadie stated that video evidence displaying the defendant’s neck and chest tattoos enabled law enforcement to identify and apprehend him after the event. She commented, “The amount of footage of him from the scene to the address, along with the comparison of his tattoos, left him with no choice but to plead guilty.” “McMinn committed this horrific attack on a residential street in broad daylight.” “It was an unprovoked assault on a defenceless victim in view of members of the public and I am glad McMinn has now been brought to justice.” She expressed hope that the victim could now recover from the “distressing ordeal” and perceive that justice had been administered.
