An individual has received a prison sentence for assaulting an acquaintance with a machete, an attack that caused the victim life-altering injuries. William Miller, aged 43, committed the violent act at his residence located in Whitehawk Close, Brighton, East Sussex, during July. Miller was found guilty of wounding with intent and grievous bodily harm with intent, and on Thursday, he received a sentence of 13 years and four months in custody, followed by an additional three years and eight months under licence. A restraining order was also issued against him by the judge presiding at Lewes Crown Court. Law enforcement officials stated that the assault occurred after Miller and the victim, a 36-year-old male, came back to the residence following a period of shared drinking. A dispute concerning a phone charger escalated into violence, resulting in the victim sustaining cuts to his head, back, and hands. The victim successfully contacted 999, and the emergency call handler overheard Miller in the background uttering: “I will chop you up right here.” Miller escaped the scene prior to the arrival of law enforcement personnel but subsequently surrendered himself. Detective Emily Farley, the investigating officer, commented: “Miller carried out a violent assault using a machete, leaving his victim critically injured.“We are pleased that a dangerous offender has now been taken off our streets.” Details for BBC Sussex can be found on Facebook, X, and Instagram.
