An individual has received a 27-year prison sentence following a brutal attack in which he stabbed a woman six times, resulting in injuries that have permanently altered her life. Ashley Joyner, residing on Shortwood Road in Pucklechurch, Bristol, inflicted injuries upon his victim that led to partial hearing loss and a requirement for a wheelchair. His sentencing occurred at Bristol Crown Court on Tuesday, subsequent to his conviction for the attempted murder of the 39-year-old woman after a four-day trial. During a victim impact statement presented to the court, the woman stated: “What kind of a selfish, manipulating person is he. I cannot call him human or indeed an animal.” Testimony during the trial indicated that on 11 September 2023, Avon and Somerset Police officers responded to a call from the ambulance service at Joyner’s residence. Upon their arrival, the woman was transported to a hospital, and Joyner was apprehended, subsequently facing an attempted murder charge the following day. In her statement, which was presented in court on her behalf, the woman detailed the profound impact the assault had on her life. She stated: “Due to the incident, it is unlikely I will have full use of my right leg and now have partial hearing in my right ear.” She further added: “I will never be able to work again and will have to use a wheelchair to get about.” The statement continued: “I do not know or understand why this has happened to me. I am now very fearful of men and will never trust a man again.” Detective Constable Mike Tarling commented: “Joyner’s horrific and violent actions against the victim have had a lasting impact and has forever changed her life.” He added: “She has displayed immense courage and bravery throughout this investigation and I commend her for how she has carried herself throughout, while recovering from these dreadful injuries inflicted upon her.” DC Tarling concluded: “Joyner poses a significant risk to the public and I am pleased that such a dangerous offender will be in prison for many years to come.” Additionally, Joyner received an eight-month prison sentence, to be served concurrently, for assault occasioning actual bodily harm. This secondary charge pertained to a distinct event that occurred at a social club in Pucklechurch in July 2023, during which Joyner struck a man on the head with a bottle in an unprovoked assault.
