An individual in his nineties sustained life-threatening injuries after being struck by a car. The incident occurred at 23:15 GMT on Monday, when the pedestrian was hit while in the roadway on High West Street, Gateshead. Police believe a black BMW 525D, which had been travelling west on High West Street near the Regent Street junction, was involved in the collision. The driver of the BMW remained at the scene and is assisting officers with their inquiries. Any witnesses or individuals possessing dashcam footage are requested to contact police.
