An individual in his seventies has passed away over a week subsequent to an assault which caused severe head and facial trauma. Dorset Police reported the incident took place on Abbotsbury Road in Weymouth just prior to 20:15 GMT on December 10. The victim, identified as 75-year-old Anthony Jacob of Weymouth, was transported to a hospital after the event and succumbed to his injuries there on Thursday. Jake Saunders, aged 19, was apprehended and accused of attempted murder by law enforcement shortly after the assault. Mr. Saunders, also a resident of Weymouth, is scheduled to appear before Bournemouth Crown Court on January 9, 2025. Detective Chief Inspector Neil Third stated that Mr. Jacob’s family is receiving assistance from specially trained officers. He further added, “We are grateful to members of the public who have provided information to assist our enquiries so far, and I am continuing to appeal for any witnesses who have not already spoken to police to please make contact with us.” BBC Dorset can be followed on Facebook, X (Twitter), or Instagram.
