A three-year prison sentence has been imposed on a 50-year-old man who sexually abused three young girls over two decades ago. Sharia Shajahan carried out these assaults on girls in Peterborough between May 1999 and September 2000. He was first reported to law enforcement in 2019 after one of the victims came forward. Det Sgt Steve Ward, who conducted the investigation, stated: “Shajahan shamefully preyed on vulnerable children to sexually abuse them.” Shajahan, residing on Stothard Street in east London, was found guilty at Huntingdon Law Courts of four counts of indecent assaults against young girls under the age of 14. Mr Ward added: “His despicable behaviour caused suffering no child should have to endure.” He concluded by saying: “The victims have all shown great courage and strength to come forward and support police with a prosecution. “Their bravery is admirable, and I hope this sentencing can bring them some sense of closure.”
