Man Imprisoned for Historical Sexual Assaults Against Three Girls

Noel Brome-Hinds, an 81-year-old resident of Wingfield in Orton Goldhay, Peterborough, has been sentenced to prison for sexually assaulting three girls. These offenses occurred over a period spanning the 1970s to the early 1990s. He was convicted of 19 charges, which included a single count of rape. During a trial held at the city’s crown court in November, testimony revealed that one of the victims endured abuse from him on more than 50 occasions, recalling her first assault from when she was a toddler. On Monday, Brome-Hinds received a 13-year prison sentence at Cambridge Crown Court. The discovery of these offenses occurred after his victims chose to report them. According to police, one victim had previously been unable to disclose the abuse, fearing she would be a burden. Another victim stated that she had experienced lifelong difficulties as a consequence. Following his arrest, Brome-Hinds denied the offenses, informing police that the allegations were “total lies” and “nasty.” He maintained his denial of any wrongdoing during his trial at Peterborough Crown Court. The jury convicted him of 13 charges of indecent assault against a girl under 14 years old and five charges of indecent assault against a girl under 16 years old. Additionally, he was found guilty of one charge of raping a female who was 16 years of age or older. Detective Constable Jessica Martin commented that the case underscored the police’s commitment to taking reports of this kind “extremely seriously,” regardless of when the events occurred or when they were reported. She stated: “I hope this outcome brings closure for the victims and their families, and allows them to move forward with their lives.” She added: “Child abuse comes in many different forms and can affect anyone. It’s everyone’s responsibility to help stop the abuse and tell someone, whether you’re a victim, friend or adult.”
