Jamie Cook, a resident of Kidderminster, has received a 16-week prison sentence and a decade-long prohibition on dog ownership following his conviction for animal cruelty offenses, which included throwing his dog at a parked car’s windscreen. The 27-year-old individual had previously admitted guilt to two charges of inflicting unnecessary suffering upon a protected animal, alongside a charge of assaulting an emergency worker and another for causing criminal damage. His sentencing took place on Monday at Kidderminster Magistrates’ Court. According to West Mercia Police, a member of the public notified officers about Cook’s actions of kicking and punching his dog during an incident that occurred on New Road in Kidderminster on July 31. The police force further stated that a separate witness observed Cook picking up the dog and subsequently throwing it onto the windscreen of a stationary vehicle on Long Acre. PC Callum Archer commented, “This was a particularly cruel attack on what was the owner’s own dog.” He added, “Fortunately, the dog came through the ordeal physically unscathed and has now been rehomed.” Cook, whose address is Hurcott Road, received the 16-week custodial sentence specifically for the two animal cruelty offenses. Additionally, he was given a two-week prison term for the assault on an emergency worker and mandated to pay £95 in restitution for the criminal damage caused. His prison terms will run concurrently, and he is anticipated to serve eight of the 16 weeks under licence, which entails his release subject to specific conditions. The decade-long prohibition against dog ownership also includes provisions that prevent Cook from either keeping or transporting such animals.
