A man in his 40s has died following a suspected hit-and-run collision. Police were called to the A19 northbound near Hylton Grange, Sunderland, at approximately 08:20 GMT, due to concerns for a man’s welfare. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. The road has since been fully reopened in both directions, after being closed for a significant part of the day between Hylton Grange Interchange and Testos Roundabout. Authorities believe the man may have sustained injuries overnight in a hit-and-run involving a blue Ford Fiesta car. Officers are appealing for the driver of the vehicle to present themselves, along with any witnesses who traveled in the vicinity overnight. A distinct segment of the road was closed for about four hours between the A183 and A1231, following a separate crash that occurred around 06:30 GMT. National Highways reported that traffic congestion extended for six miles, adding approximately an hour to typical journey times. The North East Ambulance Service confirmed that one individual was taken to hospital, while another received treatment at the site of the incident.
