A man lost his life when a tree collapsed onto a vehicle on a dual carriageway. This incident occurred while yellow wind and rain warnings were active across the south of England due to Storm Bert. Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary received a call on Saturday morning concerning a tree that had fallen on the A34 southbound carriageway, situated between Kings Worthy and Winnall. The individual driving a black Mercedes E350, identified as a man in his sixties, was pronounced dead at the location. A silver Skoda Kodiaq sustained damage as well, though no additional injuries have been reported. In response to inquiries regarding whether the fallen tree was connected to the storm, a police spokesperson stated: “We have nothing further to add at this time as it is currently under investigation.” The constabulary confirmed that the man’s family has been notified and requested any dashcam footage pertaining to the event. Drivers were advised to steer clear of the vicinity due to substantial traffic delays. The southbound carriageway remained closed for approximately six hours while National Highways undertook the removal of the tree and the recovery of the vehicles. A single lane was reopened after 14:00 GMT. The northbound carriageway experienced no impact.
