Tyrese Osei-Kofi has entered a guilty plea to murder at the Old Bailey. This admission pertains to the death of Jamel Boyce, who succumbed to injuries sustained during a stabbing attack in October 2016 in Clapham, south London, more than five years later. Following the assault, Mr. Boyce was rendered blind, paralysed, and unable to communicate. At the time of the incident, Mr. Boyce was 17 years old. He experienced cardiac arrest subsequent to the attack, leading to severe brain damage due to oxygen deprivation. Six days subsequent to the knife attack, Osei-Kofi presented himself to the police. This occurred after media appeals prompted his father to identify him. He was subsequently sentenced to 10 years for wounding with intent. Evidence presented during the initial trial indicated that the two individuals were friends and had become involved in an altercation at a fast food establishment located on Clapham High Street. Shoppers observed Mr. Boyce being held against a wall by Osei-Kofi, while other individuals witnessed the scene “like a pack of animals surrounding a buffalo.” Osei-Kofi used his right arm to restrain his victim by the neck, then proceeded to stab him before departing the scene. Although paramedics successfully maintained Mr. Boyce’s life, he suffered from a lack of oxygen for 14 minutes, leading to extensive brain damage. He was subsequently moved to a long-term care facility. Following his death from these injuries in 2022, the investigation was reactivated, and Osei-Kofi received a murder charge. The sentencing procedure has been postponed pending the completion of reports.
