An individual has been charged in Edinburgh with the attempted murder of a police officer, following an incident where the officer was struck by a stolen vehicle. Lewis Mackie, 21, is alleged to have struck the officer on Friday night in Dumbryden Gardens, within the Wester Hailes area, before absconding from the scene. The officer was transported to a hospital for medical attention and later discharged. The vehicle involved was subsequently discovered abandoned. Mr Mackie, an Edinburgh resident, appeared privately before the city’s sheriff court, where he did not enter a plea to the charges of attempted murder and assault to injury and the danger of life. He is also facing charges of theft and several road traffic offences, including failing to stop, driving while disqualified, and driving without insurance. Mr Mackie was remanded into custody and is scheduled to reappear in court within eight days.
