A 69-year-old man has been apprehended in north London on suspicion of fraud, linked to a campaign aimed at identifying the individual responsible for the 1984 killing of a police officer. Yvonne Fletcher was 25 years old when she was fatally shot while on duty outside the Libyan embassy in London. No charges have ever been brought in relation to her death. The Metropolitan Police received allegations of financial irregularities associated with a justice campaign and subsequently transferred the investigation to Cheshire Police to prevent any potential conflict of interest. Officers are currently searching a property in Mill Hill, and the arrested man remains in police custody for questioning. Detective Constable Ed Currie, from Cheshire Police, emphasized that the investigation is separate from PC Fletcher’s family, who are being kept informed about the case, and also distinct from the official police memorial trust charity. He further stated that the force is interested in hearing from anyone who may have contributed financially to the campaign at any time.
