Man arrested following reported rape at Hereford Cathedral

A man has been apprehended subsequent to reports of a rape occurring within cathedral grounds. Police officials indicated they were summoned to the event at Hereford Cathedral during the early hours. West Mercia Police confirmed that a 24-year-old man has been taken into custody on suspicion of rape and remains detained. The victim is receiving support from officers who are specially trained. Detective Inspector Colin Berry stated that CCTV footage revealed people were passing through the area at the time of the incident and encouraged anyone with information to get in touch with the police. He commented, “We understand that incidents like this can be unsettling for the community, and I want to provide reassurance that we believe there is no wider risk to the public.”
