An individual has been taken into custody on suspicion of causing death by careless driving following a collision where a cyclist was struck by a heavy goods vehicle (HGV). The incident occurred at approximately 07:35 BST on Tuesday at the Tower Road and Birkenhead Road roundabout in Seacombe, Wirral. The cyclist, a 25-year-old man, was declared deceased at the site. Merseyside Police confirmed that a 36-year-old man has been apprehended on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and remains in police custody. Authorities also stated that the driver of the HGV remained at the scene following the impact with the cyclist. Road closures that had been implemented have since been lifted. Detective Sergeant Andy Roper reported that the family of the deceased man is receiving assistance from specially trained liaison officers, and an investigation into the matter is ongoing. The police are appealing to anyone possessing information, CCTV, or dashcam footage to contact the force.
