A man has been apprehended following a suspicious fire that resulted in the collapse of a bungalow roof in Devon on Monday morning. Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service deployed five fire appliances to Bridgewater Gardens, in Totnes, around 05:45 GMT. Fire crews utilized breathing apparatus and hose reel jets to combat the blaze. The fire was extinguished by approximately 09:40 GMT, with no injuries reported. A 37-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life. He has since been released on police bail until 19 November. Totnes Fire Station reported that upon their arrival, firefighters observed the street “filled with heavy smoke and a house fully engulfed in flames, with fire breaking through windows and the roof”. Crews further stated that the adjacent bungalow also had smoke in its loft space. Devon and Cornwall Police have requested that anyone who may be able to assist officers with their inquiries contact them.
