A male individual, aged 30, has been taken into custody on suspicion of sexual assault and compelling an individual to participate in sexual activity without their consent. This apprehension is reportedly linked to an alleged occurrence that took place during a recent journey by Armagh GAA to the United States. Law enforcement officers from the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) carried out the arrest of the man on Tuesday. He has subsequently been granted bail while additional investigations are conducted. Armagh GAA stated its awareness of a reported incident and confirmed it was “responding to serious allegations.” A spokesperson confirmed, “We can confirm Armagh GAA is continuing to respond to this matter in collaboration with Ulster GAA, the GAA at central level and the PSNI.” The spokesperson added, “Out of respect for those involved and ongoing police enquiries, we are unable to comment any further at this time.” In a formal statement, Patrick Higgins, representing Donnelly and Wall Solicitors, indicated that his client had “voluntarily presented himself the PSNI” on Tuesday. The solicitor further stated, “He co-operated fully with the PSNI in the initial stages of the investigation.” He concluded by saying, “He is innocent of all charges and vows to do everything in his power to clear his name.” Approximately 100 individuals had traveled to Miami, Florida, in November to commemorate the team’s All-Ireland victory, which occurred four months prior. This marked Armagh’s initial final appearance in 21 years. Armagh GAA, Ulster GAA, and GAA headquarters did not provide a response to inquiries for comment from the BBC on Sunday, the day it was initially reported that law enforcement had been notified of the alleged incident.
