An individual has been taken into custody and a child transported to a hospital following a traffic accident that led to a partial closure of a motorway. The incident, involving multiple vehicles, occurred on the northbound carriageway of the A1(M) at approximately 06:21 GMT on Monday. It took place between junction eight, which serves Stevenage, and junction nine, for Letchworth. Hertfordshire Police reported that the driver of a Renault Megane was arrested in connection with the crash and was also taken to a hospital for treatment. A child who was a passenger in the same vehicle was also transported to a hospital, having sustained serious injuries. A spokesperson for the East of England Ambulance Service confirmed that six people were evaluated at the scene, and the child along with the adult were conveyed to the Lister Hospital in Stevenage for ongoing medical attention. The northbound carriageway remained shut down while an oil spill, which resulted from the collision, was cleaned up, and a diversion route was established. National Highways announced on X that the road was fully reopened at about 04:45 on Tuesday, nearly 24 hours later, after repairs were completed.
