A male individual has been brought before a court following an assault on a female prison officer that occurred outside HMP Norwich. Authorities, specifically Norfolk Police, responded to notifications of the incident on Knox Road on Saturday, November 30. The officer, who was departing from her shift, received medical attention at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital. Sam Morrison, aged 26, residing at Recorder Road, Norwich, faces charges of grievous bodily harm with intent and criminal damage. Steven Searby, representing the Prison Officers’ Association, stated that personnel were profoundly affected by the incident. Mr. Searby confirmed that the victim has since been released from hospital, though he noted that “she will be off for a long time in the future.” He further commented: “I can’t remember in my 30 years this happening to a member of staff.” Morrison presented himself at Norwich Magistrates’ Court on Monday and has been held in custody pending a subsequent hearing at Norwich Crown Court scheduled for January.
