Cambridgeshire’s largest recycling facility is scheduled for a nine-month closure beginning in the autumn of 2025 to facilitate redevelopment work. The county council stated that the updated site in Milton, located north of Cambridge, will be larger and incorporate a “purpose-built re-use area,” along with increased parking availability for vehicles. The council further indicated that the facility would be more modern and offer enhanced accessibility for residents. During the closure period, a booking system will be implemented at three other sites: Witchford, Bluntisham, and Thriplow. Over the course of the nine months, the existing facility is slated for demolition and a complete reconstruction. Planning permission for the current facility was previously linked to the operations of the adjacent landfill site. Lorna Dupre, chair of the environment and green investment committee at the council, explained, “With the life of the landfill site coming to an end, we needed to decouple the two permissions.” She added that the authority “took the opportunity to develop plans for a new, larger and more modern facility that will help residents continue to recycle safely and easily.” The online booking system at the alternative sites, which was temporarily introduced during the Covid pandemic, is intended to “help to reduce queues and waiting times, and aim to ensure residents can visit the three sites at a time convenient to them.” Post navigation Injured Puffin Finds New Home at Sanctuary, Adapting Well UK Waterways Face Pharmaceutical Contamination Concerns, Prompting Public Rally
