Law enforcement officials have urged the public to exercise caution following the finding of a machete close to a recreational area. Personnel from Wiltshire Police located the implement concealed beneath a hedgerow in the northern part of Swindon. The Swindon North, East and Rural neighbourhood policing team stated that this finding served as “an example” illustrating the necessity of conducting knife sweeps. “Though it’s not an everyday occurrence, there are knives like this being concealed in our communities which obviously pose a risk to the public, especially when they are found by children,” the team said. “We would appeal for people to be vigilant, and call us immediately if they find anything suspicious.” The police force shared a photograph of the weapon on social media platforms, indicating its size was marginally greater than a standard 17 inch (43cm) computer keyboard.
