Following Storm Darragh, a seal rescue facility is requesting financial assistance to care for six sick and injured pups simultaneously. The Mablethorpe Seal Sanctuary and Wildlife Centre, located in Lincolnshire, manages a hospital for sick and abandoned seal pups in addition to caring for 200 animals. According to Manager Chloe Drew, thousands of pounds are required due to increasing costs for medication, food, and veterinary services to treat and care for the six grey seal pups. These pups, born at Donna Nook, arrived at the centre last week following the storm. She stated, “Three have got bad injuries, so they’re requiring quite intensive care to hopefully get them back to full health.” “Seals cost anywhere between £2,000 and £5,000 depending on how long they’re with us and how much treatment they need.” Ms. Drew explained that Storm Darragh caused some seal pups to be washed ashore at different coastal sites after being forcibly separated from their mothers. She added that all the pups needed “round the clock medical treatment.” Among them, three pups were suffering from severe eye infections, and one had an infected facial wound. She further commented, “Six is all we can deal with at the moment because they’ve got such complex needs that they are taking up more time than if they were healthy, but just separated from their mum.” “Three out of the six have got bad infections so they’re having to have extra cleaning, extra medication.” “We want to concentrate on giving these the best care they need.” Ms. Drew characterized the work as “a very emotionally exhausting job,” noting that daily expenses for food, heating, energy, and treatment necessitate £30,000 for the centre to “get them back to full health and released into the wild.” She elaborated, “It costs about £25 a day to feed each pup. Then there’s the vet visits, all the medication. It easily takes up hundreds or thousands of pounds,” adding, “Seeing that they’re not feeling very well, it’s emotionally draining. It’s a very difficult job to do.” Post navigation Isle of Man Government to Discontinue Paper Recycling Banks Denmark Finalizes Agreement for World’s First Livestock Emissions Tax
