A speed restriction on a frequently used section of motorway has been removed after the conclusion of road construction. According to National Highways, the M6’s speed limit between Warrington and Wigan has been raised from 50mph to 70mph. Additionally, an extra lane on each side of the motorway became operational for the first time on Thursday. This development follows a £260m project that included funding for stopped vehicle detection (SVD) technology. This system notifies operators about potential requirements for lane closures and temporary speed restrictions. The enhanced motorway section spans 10 miles, connecting junction 21a (the Croft interchange for the M62) and junction 26 (for the M58 and Orrell). A year prior, the roadworks were expanded to significantly increase the number of emergency stopping areas available to drivers, from 10 to 22. Furthermore, extensive resurfacing has been performed across the majority of the improved stretch.
