The M25 motorway experienced a closure near the Dartford Crossing for several hours on Wednesday following a “serious” collision. Kent Police confirmed they received a call shortly after 14:30 GMT regarding the incident, which involved a motorcycle on the clockwise carriageway. Both the clockwise and anti-clockwise carriageways were shut down as a result of the event, with an air ambulance also dispatched to the scene. Highways England South East reported that the clockwise carriageway was the final section to reopen, doing so at 20:00 GMT, though significant delays persisted in both directions. A spokesperson indicated that two of the four clockwise lanes remained closed “to allow for clear-up works to take place.” The agency issued a warning about expected delays of two hours for clockwise traffic and 30 minutes for anti-clockwise traffic, advising motorists to allocate additional travel time. Traffic information provider Inrix noted “heavy” traffic on the A2 and A13 resulting from the earlier closure, leading to congestion through Dartford and Greenhithe as vehicles were rerouted.
