Luton Town’s defender, Teden Mengi, who transferred from Manchester United in August 2023, is expected to be out of action for “months” following knee surgery. Manager Rob Edwards confirmed that the injury occurred during a training session. The 22-year-old was absent from Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Swansea City, having participated in 15 of the Hatters’ last 18 matches this season. Speaking to BBC Three Counties Radio, Edwards stated, “Teden will be out for months now. It’s just an innocuous one, passing the ball in a passing drill and he’s had an operation.” Edwards added, “”It’s just another blow but we’re getting used to those.” Last month, Mengi received a call-up for England Under-21 duty. On Saturday, he shared an Instagram message with supporters, explaining an earlier knee injury sustained in May while playing against Fulham, for which he had previously opted against surgery. Mengi’s statement read, “”I was advised that surgical action should be taken but the decision was ultimately left in my hands and I chose against it,” he said, externally. “There comes a point where it starts to become dangerous so I have opted to take surgical action. I can assure you I will do everything in my power to get back to 100%,” he added.” Additionally, Luton played the draw against Swansea without former Brentford midfielder Shandon Baptiste, who was sidelined due to a calf muscle injury.
