The historic Loughborough Fair is anticipated to draw thousands of attendees upon its return to the town. Scheduled from 13 to 16 November, the event will commence with the official proclamation being read at the Gallopers, situated in Devonshire Square within the town centre. This annual event, organized by Charnwood Borough Council, will again feature rides, attractions, games, quizzes, and food and drink stalls, catering to all age groups. King Henry III granted the initial official charter for the fair to Hugh le Despencer, the Lord of the Manor, in 1221. Councillor Dr Julie Bradshaw, the mayor of Charnwood, will officially inaugurate the fair at 17:00 GMT on Wednesday. During the opening, she will also receive the official Loughborough Fair Bell. Councillor Jennifer Tillotson, who serves as the council’s lead member for economic development, regeneration, and town centres, stated: “We can’t wait to welcome all the fun of the fair back to Loughborough this month.” She added: “It is always a memorable time of year as lots of families and residents visit the town centre to enjoy the rides and attractions as well as supporting our local businesses.” Charnwood Borough Council announced that the Granby Street car park would be closed starting Monday afternoon to accommodate the rides and attractions. Additionally, the car parks situated at Ward’s End and Bedford Square are scheduled for closure from Tuesday afternoon. Nevertheless, the Beehive Lane multi-storey car park and the Southfield Road car parks will remain accessible throughout the fair’s operating hours. The Southfield offices car park will also be open for public use beyond the council’s regular opening times.
