West Ham manager Julen Lopetegui, currently facing intense scrutiny, has declared that “we are going to change the situation” at the struggling club. Discussions regarding the Spaniard’s future were held among senior club officials following Tuesday’s 3-1 loss to Leicester City. The Hammers currently occupy 14th place in the Premier League standings and have secured only one victory in their last five matches as they prepare for Monday’s home fixture against Wolves, who are second from the bottom. Lopetegui had previously departed from his role at Wolves just prior to the commencement of the 2023-24 season, having been in charge for a mere nine months. When questioned about the possibility of leaving West Ham, where he took over from David Moyes in May, the 58-year-old Spaniard responded: “You are talking about a very different situation.” He added, “I have big commitment to my work, always, and I am very happy to stay at West Ham. We are going to change the situation.” In response to a suggestion that the upcoming match could determine his job security, Lopetegui stated: “I [am] not thinking about this. I [am] thinking we have one very important challenge on Monday against a good team.” He continued: “We have to be focused to have a good answer and develop our work until Monday, to get ready to face them and to give our fans a good day.” Lopetegui also acknowledged, “I understand all the things around football and I understand my main aim and responsibility is to be ready for a tough, hard match.” He further emphasized: “But in the same way, it’s a big opportunity and challenge for us at home, to be ready to achieve the three points. That is the most important thing.” West Ham supporters have expressed dissatisfaction with the team’s playing style under Lopetegui, who assumed command in May. The Hammers have recorded four wins and seven losses in their 14 league games played this season. The team has also suffered defeats in both matches since their 2-0 victory at Newcastle and is now set to confront a Wolves side that was beaten 4-0 by Everton on Wednesday. “I don’t have anything to say against my players,” remarked Lopetegui, the former coach of Real Madrid and Spain. He affirmed, “I accept the responsibility and the pressure. That’s why I am a coach.” He also conceded: “For sure, we’re not happy and, for sure, the fans are always right. That’s why I think, until now, they give us much more than we give them.” Lopetegui concluded by stating: “We have to change this, and we are looking for this.” Post navigation Brighton’s Dario Vidosic Secures WSL Manager of the Month Award for October Gary O’Neil’s Tenure at Wolves: A Conditional Mandate
