Having retired from international cricket with South Africa in 2022, Lizelle Lee made history by becoming the inaugural player to achieve consecutive centuries in the Women’s Big Bash League, contributing to Hobart Hurricanes’ 28-run victory against Adelaide Strikers. Following her exceptional 150 not out against Perth Scorchers on Sunday, which set a new record, Lee delivered a score of 103 runs off merely 59 deliveries. This performance helped the Hurricanes achieve a total of 191-2 within their allotted 20 overs. The ex-South Africa batter’s powerful innings, featuring 13 fours and four sixes, was bolstered by Australian Nicola Carey, who remained undefeated with 64 runs from 46 balls. The Adelaide Strikers, current titleholders, responded by accumulating 163-3. Their innings saw South Africa’s Laura Wolvaardt conclude with an unbeaten 63 runs from 40 balls, alongside India’s opening batter Smriti Mandhana, who contributed 51 runs. During the Hurricanes’ innings, England’s Danni Wyatt-Hodge was dismissed for a first-ball duck, bowled by Australia’s Megan Schutt. Schutt was the sole bowler to claim a wicket in the innings, as Lee’s dismissal in the 15th over occurred via a run-out. Lizelle Lee currently stands as the leading run-scorer in the tournament, having amassed 324 runs across seven innings at an average of 54. She surpasses Australian all-rounder Ellyse Perry, who has accumulated 315 runs in six innings.
