Public transportation services across Liverpool are set to operate on altered timetables during the upcoming holiday period. Providers of rail, bus, and other travel services within the Liverpool city region have implemented these adjustments to account for the Christmas and New Year bank holidays. This updated holiday schedule will introduce modifications to Mersey Tunnels, Merseyrail, and Mersey Ferries operations. Additionally, dedicated services will be available for Christmas football fixtures. Travelers are advised to plan their routes in advance of their journeys. Councillor Steve Foulkes, who chairs the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority Transport Committee, commented: “This time of year is always very busy for everyone and the work that our frontline public transport colleagues do over this period is always hugely appreciated”. The Mersey Tunnels, typically requiring a toll for passage, will waive fees from 22:00 GMT on 24 December until 06:00 GMT on 26 December. Both the Kingsway and Queensway Tunnels are scheduled to operate continuously throughout the festive season. Alterations will affect the schedules of all railway operators, with certain services concluding earlier than their standard times, notably on 24 December and 31 December. A number of services will not be operational. Merseyrail services will not be available on 25 December. However, select Northern and Wirral line services will operate on Boxing Day. Furthermore, transport services will be provided for the Liverpool v Leicester City match and the events at Aintree Racecourse. Northern Trains will similarly implement service adjustments, particularly on Sundays, which will include some cancellations and the provision of rail replacement bus services. Commuters are recommended to consult the Northern and Merseyrail websites prior to their journeys. On Christmas Day, a dedicated network of complimentary bus services, financed by the Liverpool Combined Authority, is scheduled to operate from 12:00 GMT to 18:00 GMT, serving the majority of hospital routes. No other bus services will be in operation. Services will conclude earlier on 31 December, and a restricted number of buses will be available on 1 January. For the Liverpool V Leicester City football game scheduled for 26 December, the following buses will adhere to their normal timetables: On 29 December, for the Everton v Nottingham Forest game, the following buses will also operate according to their normal timetables: Passengers are advised to verify information on the Arriva and Stagecoach websites before undertaking their travels. The River Explorer Cruise service will operate as usual on 21 and 22 December, with Commuter and River Explorer services also running normally on 23 December. Nevertheless, Mersey Ferries will suspend operations on 24 December, 25 December, 26 December, 27 December, and 1 January. River Explorer Cruises are scheduled to run from 28 to 31 December, departing from the Pier Head at 11:00 GMT, then hourly until the final service, which will depart from the Pier Head at 15:00 GMT, reaching Seacombe, in Wirral, at 15:20 GMT. No commuter service will be available during this specific timeframe. Standard services are set to recommence on 2 January, with the initial commuter service departing from Seacombe at 07:20 GMT and the first River Explorer Cruise leaving the Pier Head at 10:00 GMT.
