Ice dancers Lilah Fear and Lewis Gibson have secured Britain’s inaugural medal at the ISU Grand Prix Final, earning bronze in Grenoble, France. This achievement follows their 10th-place finish at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. The Grand Prix Final brings together the top six teams from each discipline, selected based on their results across the series. The British duo qualified for the event by achieving victories at Skate America and the Finlandia Trophy earlier in the current season. Fear and Gibson, who are two-time European silver medallists, concluded the competition with a total score of 205.18, accumulated from their rhythm dance and free dance segments. Gold was awarded to the United States’ reigning world champions, Madison Chock and Evan Bates, who scored 219.85. Italy’s European champions, Charlene Guignard and Marco Fabbri, secured second place with a score of 206.11. The pair commented on their achievement, stating, “It is such an honour to be the first British GP Final medallists, and we are so proud to represent Great Britain.” They added, “It’s amazing to continue the tradition of British ice dance – there are so many legends that have come before us and we are excited to lead the new generation.” Fear, aged 25, and Gibson, aged 30, are now preparing for upcoming competitions. These include the European Championships, scheduled for late January in Tallinn, Estonia, followed by the World Championships in Boston in March.
