A life-sized cake depicting Taylor Swift sustained significant damage during its transport to a major exhibition and, being unable to “shake it off”, will not be presented for public viewing. On Friday morning, artist Elza Baldzhiyska attempted to mend her creation at the well-known event, which features edible replicas of celebrities, but the cake was too extensively damaged. Photographs reportedly depicted the confectionery Swift bent at the knees, seemingly inadvertently performing movements reminiscent of those seen on the record-breaking Eras tour. The artwork had been scheduled as a primary attraction at Cake International, held at the NEC near Birmingham, but these plans were disrupted by the damage. Images also showed the cake without hands; however, organisers clarified that these edible parts were always intended to be attached later, and Swift’s wrists were not the source of the problem. Nevertheless, those disappointed by this setback do not need to remain disheartened for long. Thousands of attendees are anticipated at the event, which concludes on Sunday, where they can enjoy numerous other exhibits, including a life-sized representation of Queen Elizabeth I and a rendition of Dogpool, a canine character from the hit movie Deadpool & Wolverine. These are among hundreds of displays and competition submissions as Cake International commemorates its 30th anniversary. The event also includes live demonstrations and trade stalls. Emma Jayne, an artist hailing from South Wales, previously crafted a life-sized version of King Charles during his coronation year. For this occasion, she focused on Queen Elizabeth I, drawing inspiration from a portrait located at Hatfield House, in Hertfordshire. Cake International announced that this would be the final feature piece from its resident artist. For updates, follow BBC Birmingham on BBC Sounds, Facebook, X, and Instagram. Copyright 2024 BBC.
