Life sentences have been imposed on two teenagers and a sex worker following their involvement in the planned murder of a competing drug dealer. Sacad Ali, aged 24, was enticed to Ponderosa Park in Sheffield by Rebecca Moore, where he was subsequently ambushed and fatally stabbed by Barney Griffin and Jack Douglas. The motive cited was Mr. Ali’s drug dealing “on their turf.” Griffin received a minimum detention period of 16 years. Douglas was given a minimum sentence of 15 years, and Moore was also incarcerated for a minimum of 15 years. During the sentencing of the three individuals, Judge Jeremy Richardson KC, the Recorder of Sheffield, stated: “You were all in this together. All three of you committed murder.” Griffin, 18, residing at Dixon Drive, Sheffield, and Douglas, 17, from Brightholmlee Lane, Sheffield, both admitted their guilt to charges of murder and possession of a bladed article. Moore, whose address is Springvale Walk, Sheffield, was found guilty of murder following a trial held at Sheffield Crown Court. Testimony presented during Moore’s trial revealed that the teenagers, who operated a drug supply network in Sheffield, collaborated with Moore, a drug user and sex worker, to assault Mr. Ali in the early morning hours of March 9. Prosecutor Simon Kealey KC asserted that Moore served as “bait” to draw Mr. Ali to the park, making promises to purchase crack cocaine from him and offering “sexual favours.” At the communal park, Moore and Mr. Ali met, whereupon Griffin and Douglas inflicted 16 stab wounds upon him, leaving him to “bleed to death.” The jury was informed that Griffin and Douglas subsequently fled the location, with Moore departing a brief period later. On March 12, Griffin and Douglas surrendered to law enforcement, while Moore was apprehended later on the same day. All three individuals were formally charged on the subsequent day. Throughout her trial, Moore maintained her innocence, notwithstanding evidence indicating she had “boasted” and “laughed” regarding her role in orchestrating the assault. On Thursday, during the sentencing, Judge Richardson remarked: “The actual act of killing was perpetrated by you, Griffin and Douglas, [but] the murder was set up by all three of you.” He further added: “It was your task, Moore, to lure the deceased to the location and to his death.” The judge emphasized the broader implications, stating: “If ever there was a case that demonstrates the twin evils of drug peddling and carrying knives, particularly young people carrying knives, this is it.” He concluded this point by saying: “This case demonstrates what can happen when young people get embroiled in drug peddling and a drug-related turf ware erupts.” He noted that while he did not believe Griffin and Douglas had established the drug line, once they were “recruited or corrupted to enter the fetid swamp of drug dealing,” they had “wallowed in that swamp.” A statement from Mr. Ali’s mother, read aloud in court, conveyed that her family would never overcome his death. She stated: “I lost a part of myself when my son was taken away from me in such a violent and brutal manner.” She continued: “None of Sacad’s family will be able to hug him, hear him talk, or hear his joyous laugh.” Concluding her statement, she said: “Our lives have become empty and desolate every day we are reminded of our loss.” Outside the courtroom, Detective Chief Inspector Ben Wood commented: “The two teenagers murdered Sacad in a barbaric way, with Moore also murdering him by duping him into meeting and luring him to the spot where he would be brutally attacked.” He added: “Rather than admit her guilt, Moore then made Sacad’s loved ones relive the events of the day he died by making them endure a trial in court, after which she was found guilty of murder.” Post navigation Driver Arrested After Car Fire Follows Leicestershire Collision Man jailed for £45,000 cocaine dealing operation
