An individual described as a “highly dangerous” sexual offender has received a life sentence for raping a woman in a cemetery after pursuing her home. Adam Martin trailed the woman as she departed from Cleckheaton bus station, subsequently forcing her into the graveyard where he committed a “sustained and vicious attack,” according to West Yorkshire Police. Martin, aged 26 and without a fixed address, had previously admitted guilt to a total of 10 charges connected to the assault. These charges included two counts of rape, two counts of intentional strangulation, and one count of making threats to kill. During a sentencing hearing held at Leeds Crown Court on Friday, it was stipulated that Martin must complete a minimum custodial period of 13 years and nine months. Subsequent to the hearing, Detective Inspector Jodie Hayes issued a statement, asserting: “Adam Martin committed a shocking attack against a lone victim and we welcome his sentencing at court today.“He identified and followed his victim before committing a sustained and vicious attack. There is no doubt whatsoever he is a highly dangerous sexual offender who has acted in the most predatory way.“It is welcome that his guilty plea may have spared the victim the ordeal of a trial but, in truth, the weight of evidence against him was so substantial he had little choice but to enter this plea.”
