The launch of a new musical track featuring Liam Payne has been put on hold. This decision follows a statement from his collaborator, who indicated that “it’s not the time yet” and expressed a desire for the singer’s family to “mourn in peace”. The former One Direction member, whose death occurred a fortnight prior, had collaborated on and performed the song “Do No Wrong” alongside North Carolina-based vocalist Sam Pounds. Previously, Pounds had announced that the song was slated for release on Friday, November 1, expressing his hope that it would “eclipse the negative echoes” associated with Payne’s passing. However, in a declaration issued on Tuesday, Pounds stated his choice to be “deciding to hold Do No Wrong and leave those liberties up to all family members”. He further commented: “I want all proceeds go to a charity of their choosing (or however they desire).” He continued, “Even though we all love the song it’s not the time yet. We are all still mourning the passing of Liam and I want the family to mourn in peace and in prayer. “We will all wait.”” Supporters expressed gratitude to Pounds for postponing the track’s complete release. One fan remarked that it was the “right decision,” while another commented, “there will be a right time for it in the future but for now we mourn.” In the preceding week, Pounds had shared video snippets of the two artists in the recording studio. These clips were filmed by Payne’s sister, Ruth, who also contributed to the songwriting of the track. Additionally, he uploaded artwork depicting an angel positioned beneath a fractured black heart. Regarding the anticipated official release, Pounds conveyed on X: “I pray that this will be a blessing to the world like Liam has always dreamed.” He continued, “I pray angels will comfort you all every day while listening. I pray that this song will be a blessing to Ruth, Bear, and the entire family.” Payne was a parent to his seven-year-old son, Bear, with Girls Aloud member Cheryl, with whom he had a relationship between 2016 and 2018. Subsequent to his demise, all five albums by One Direction re-entered the UK top 40 charts. Following his departure from the band, Payne achieved top 10 successes with collaborations involving Rita Ora and Quavo. His most recent solo track, “Teardrops,” launched earlier this year, peaked at number 85. The 31-year-old vocalist, a native of Wolverhampton, passed away on October 16 after falling from a third-floor balcony of a hotel situated in Buenos Aires. The Public Prosecutor’s Office in Argentina is presently conducting an ongoing inquiry into the events surrounding his death. Copyright 2024 BBC. All rights reserved.
