Swansea City’s choice to offer Liam Cullen a new contract appears increasingly astute with each passing week. Initially, Swansea delayed securing the forward long-term, choosing in April to activate a one-year extension on his existing agreement instead of providing the multi-year deal Cullen desired. However, the club revised its position in October, concluding that Cullen merited a new three-and-a-half-year contract. Cullen’s subsequent performance has been the most impressive period of his career. This includes his significant appearance for Wales against Iceland last month, contributing to a total of four goals and four assists across his last four matches for both his club and national team. Following Cullen’s most recent impactful display during Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Portsmouth, Swansea head coach Luke Williams remarked, “He is a joy to watch isn’t he.” Williams further commented on Cullen’s attributes, stating, “He has quality, great energy. He’s always drenched in sweat, giving everything to the team – and whisking the hair out of his face because he’s so cool.” He added, “He is in great form and he deserves to be because he works hard on his game every day and he runs himself into oblivion in every game.” Swansea is scheduled to resume play next weekend against Luton Town. Considering his current successful streak, Cullen is anticipated to be eagerly awaiting the match.
