Complimentary hot showers are being provided at a swimming pool and a fitness centre for individuals experiencing hardship during the cold winter months. Better leisure centres announced that Kempston Pool and Fitness and the John Bunyan Sports and Fitness centre, both situated in Bedford, will be accessible to local residents on specific days. Attendees will receive free tea, coffee, and biscuits, along with a facility to charge their phones and use the Wi-Fi, all at no cost. Aaron Colbert, GLL community sports manager for Better, stated: “We know that winter can be a difficult and isolating time of the year and at the heart of the community, and as a charitable social enterprise, we always want to help.” The charity reported that the Warm Spaces initiative, which was established in 2022 in response to the cost of living crisis, extended “a warm welcome and comfortable seating” to anyone living near the two facilities. Kempton Pool will be open from 09:00-15:30 GMT on Monday and Friday, and John Bunyan Sports and Fitness will operate from 11:30 -13:30 on a Monday. Mr Colbert added: “There’ll be a warm welcome from our staff to anyone who wants to pop in.” For updates on Beds, Herts and Bucks news, information is available on BBC Sounds, Facebook, Instagram, and X.
