An initiative described as a “live advent calendar,” offering residents the opportunity to witness a distinct Christmas performance daily behind the door of a different residence over 24 days, is scheduled to commence. Throughout December, storytellers, dancers, and drummers will present various performances at 24 distinct locations within Leek, Staffordshire. Organisers stated that starting Sunday, the specific address for each day’s event will be disclosed in the morning, enabling individuals from the town and surrounding areas to locate it. Attendees are required to knock on the designated door between 16:00 and 18:30 GMT daily to experience these festive occasions. Over 40 community groups, schools, artists, and businesses are participating in this live advent calendar, an event co-developed by the community arts programme OUTSIDE. Sarah Bird, the creative director, commented that the event aims to highlight the creativity of community members, “allowing people of all ages to connect with each other and with their town in the most festive way.” She further stated, “This year’s calendar features a brilliant range of surprises, with something special each day to fill December with joy and wonder.” The initiative, named 24 Doors, is scheduled to conclude on 24 December with a community carol singalong held at Leek Town Football Club.
