Increased stop and search authorities have been introduced across parts of Leeds after three men sustained injuries in two separate occurrences. The Section 60 powers became effective at 17:40 GMT, covering the north and west of the city, including the areas around Bramley, Armley, Kirkstall, and Hyde Park. West Yorkshire Police initiated these actions after a man suffered head injuries and seven men were arrested following reports of a fight in Wortley at about 15:00. This was followed by a second incident at 17:00 in the Kirkstall area, where two men received injuries from bladed weapons. The force stated that the powers would remain in place for 24 hours, with the possibility of extending them further. These enhanced powers permit officers to search people or vehicles for offensive weapons or dangerous instruments without needing their usual grounds to suspect each person searched. A force spokesperson said: “Officers are increasing their patrols and presence in the area to deter any further incidents and reassure the communities involved.“Maintaining the trust and confidence of the community is vital and we are continuing to liaise with key community representatives, including the district’s Independent Advisory Group, to ensure appropriate scrutiny and accountability around the use of this additional power.” Post navigation Two Arrested for Murder Following Man’s Death in Liverpool Londonderry Judge Warns of Stricter Approach to Class C Drug Offences
