Students at a special education institution have successfully completed a swimming initiative designed to generate funds for Children in Need. Le Rondin school, located in Guernsey, drew inspiration from the BBC’s Thousand Mile Challenge, an event where local radio stations nationwide collectively swam 1,000 miles (1,609km) for the same charitable cause. The pupils at Le Rondin devised their own version of this challenge, swimming over 800 lengths of their school’s pool, which resulted in raising £771. Caitlin de Garis, the assistant head teacher, expressed her pride in the children, characterizing them as “incredible, resilient wonderful little humans” who “constantly surprise us day in day out.” Mrs. de Garis further commented, “The staff have been absolutely amazed by how the children have done with this challenge.” She added, “We’ve had children who previously weren’t that engaged in swimming being engaged now, so its massive.” Leo, a pupil from Le Rondin, described the challenge as “hard” yet “amazing.” He remarked, “This was really special for me as I don’t think I’ve ever swam for Pudsey before.” Another pupil, Cody, stated, “It was quite exciting how much money we have raised for Pudsey.” Cat Teasdale, the school’s PE lead, emphasized that the core purpose of the challenge was participation. She explained, “We have a range of abilities and a range of swimming skills,” adding, “What we wanted to do was make sure the children were in the water and taking part.”
