Law enforcement personnel discovered illicit weapons and narcotics within a clandestine room, obscured by a simulated fireplace, during a recent enforcement operation. West Yorkshire Police reported that officers made this finding at a residence located on Halifax Road in Batley on Sunday. A spokesperson for the force additionally stated that a samurai sword, various knives, and a cannabis cultivation setup “containing a number of plants” were confiscated. While no arrests have been made thus far, the spokesperson confirmed that an investigation to identify those responsible is currently in progress. The premises were vacant when the raid was conducted early on Sunday morning, as part of an initiative aimed at disrupting the supply of illegal drugs in Kirklees. Upon entry, officers observed that a wall-mounted fireplace was not genuine and served to conceal the access point to the hidden chamber. Chief Inspector Rebecca Calpin remarked that “a good deal of effort was clearly put into trying to disguise the illegal operation.” She further indicated that “a significant amount of work remains ongoing to disrupt drugs supply” in Batley and appealed to anyone with information to come forward.
