Lauren Hemp, a winger for Manchester City, has been recognized as the Women’s Super League Player of the Month for October. The 24-year-old Hemp played a key role in Gareth Taylor’s squad maintaining an undefeated record throughout October, contributing two goals and two assists across their three league fixtures. The England international opened the scoring in City’s 2-0 victory against West Ham early in the month. Furthermore, she assisted Khadija Shaw’s initial goal at Anfield, which was crucial as City recovered from a deficit to defeat Liverpool 2-1. During City’s most recent league match against Aston Villa, Hemp scored an equalizing goal and then provided the assist for Jill Roord’s winning strike. Hemp was chosen for the accolade over fellow nominees Celine Bizet of Manchester United, Annabel Blanchard of Crystal Palace, Sophie Howard of Leicester City, Johanna Rytting Kaneryd of Chelsea, and Nikita Parris of Brighton. Manchester City currently leads the WSL standings, though Chelsea trails by only one point with a game in hand.
