The family of Laura Nuttall, who completed an extensive bucket list before succumbing to brain cancer, has ascended one of her cherished walking locations 100 times to commemorate her 25th birthday. Laura passed away in May 2023, having been diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer in 2018. She had initially been given a prognosis of 12 months. After her death at the age of 23, her family scattered Laura’s ashes at the summit of Pendle Hill, which they identified as one of her preferred walking spots. Her mother, Nicola Nuttall, described finishing the climbs on her daughter’s birthday as “really special”. She informed BBC North West Tonight that the walks she shared with her daughter Grace became their “special time together”. Speaking as the family undertook their final ascent, Mrs. Nuttall mentioned they would “talk about Laura and memories and what we were going to do moving forward”. She further added: “We just went through all the seasons, all weathers and all times of the day and night, with our head torches on.” Laura, who hailed from Barrowford in Lancashire, received a diagnosis of glioblastoma multiforme, the most aggressive type of brain cancer, following a routine eye test. Subsequently, eight tumors were discovered. Despite her diagnosis and years of treatment, she proceeded to fulfill a bucket list of ambitions, which included meeting Michelle Obama, commanding a Royal Navy ship, and presenting the weather on BBC North West Tonight. A fan of Peter Kay, she also successfully graduated from the University of Manchester.
