A collection of musical instruments, including guitars, amplifiers, and keyboards, previously owned by Angelo Bruschini, the late guitarist for Massive Attack, fetched more than £20,000 at an auction. The Bristol-born guitarist died from cancer in October 2023. His family organized the auction, which was conducted by Gardiner Houlgate auctioneers in Corsham, Wiltshire. Luke Hobbs, head of the guitar department at Gardiner Houlgate, remarked, “We hold four of these specialist guitar auctions a year and this was our largest to date with 1,879 lots offered in total and 90% sold.” The auction also featured items that had belonged to members of bands such as Ultravox and Status Quo. Bruschini performed with several bands, including Blue Aeroplanes, and his work was significantly featured on Massive Attack’s 1998 Mercury-nominated album, Mezzanine. Mr. Hobbs identified a “1968 Fender Telecaster Thinline that was used throughout his career and on the recording of Mezzanine” as the most prominent item from Bruschini’s collection. He added, “It can clearly be heard at the end of the track Angel.” That particular guitar sold for a total of £4,550. The auction drew international attention, with collectors, musicians, and fans placing bids from the US, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. Mr. Hobbs stated, “The sale was a great success, showing a buoyant market and the popularity of these instruments.” Copyright 2024 BBC. All rights reserved.
