Following Sunday’s match at Shamrock Park, Larne manager Tiernan Lynch commented on his team’s 2-1 defeat by Portadown, stating they must take it “firmly on the chin”. This result marked a further setback for the reigning champions, occurring just three days after their 4-1 loss to Shamrock Rovers in the Uefa Conference League. Consequently, the Inver Reds have secured only one point from their previous three league fixtures, causing them to drop to ninth position in the standings. Lynch remarked, “It’s really easy for me to come here and start blaming people, blaming fixtures or blaming the players but I don’t think that’s what it’s all about.” He continued, “Collectively we take our medicine today. There’s some things that we’re doing really well and there’s some things we’re doing not so well and it’s hurting us at the moment.” Lynch emphasized, “We just have to stay together, roll up our sleeves, take these things firmly on the chin and try to put them right. Ultimately it is about what we do about it. You can shy away from this but I don’t think that’s going to be our form.” During the match, Aaron McCarey’s own goal initially put the visiting team ahead. Eamon Fyfe then equalized for the Ports, but Shay McCartan secured the victory with a remarkable strike from his own half, two minutes before the end of the game. Lynch further commented, “We never took our chances, we didn’t create enough chances and we conceded stupid goals.”
