Larne manager Gary Haveron expressed satisfaction with his team’s “dogged” performance during their 1-0 triumph over Dungannon Swifts at Stangmore Park. Mark Randall secured the sole goal for the Inver Reds, and Haveron noted his pleasure that his squad managed to limit the in-form Swifts to minimal scoring opportunities. Larne currently holds six games in hand over league leaders Linfield. “It is tough to come down to Dungannon at the best of times, they’re flying and Rodney McAree has them playing good football,” Haveron explained. “We knew we had to come down here with a game plan. be dogged and come away with three points and that’s what we’ve done.” Haveron, overseeing his inaugural league match as manager, also commended his players for building upon their significant Uefa Conference League victory against Gent, achieved on Thursday. Larne now trails league leaders Linfield by 22 points, possessing six games in hand, as they aim to secure their third consecutive Gibson Cup. “It was important we backed up the Gent performance and result and we managed to do that, we got the goal when we were staring to get on top,” Haveron added. “We know we need to put a run together to move up the league.” He also light-heartedly suggested that a fortunate charm for Larne in their two most recent matches has been the timing of contract extensions, which were awarded to the respective goal scorers on the day of their goals. “Tomas [Cosgrove] got the goal on Thursday night and he had a contract extension the same day and then Mark tonight, so we need to get a few more boys on new contracts on the days of games it’s been a good omen for us!”
