The 115ft (35m) tall Wheel of Light has been relocated within Leicester as preparations for the festive period continue. On Tuesday, a crane positioned the wheel in Jubilee Square for its scheduled opening on Friday. This follows its illumination of Belgrave Road for Diwali last month. The attraction is slated to remain in place until January 5, alongside an all-weather ice rink which is expected to arrive on December 5. Leicester City Council has confirmed a series of upcoming events, including a new market and the annual Christmas lights switch-on, which will take place on November 20. A 49ft (15m) Christmas tree is scheduled for delivery during the second week of November. It will be positioned adjacent to the clock tower in anticipation of the lights switch-on event. The authority reported that the installation of 16,000 low-energy lamps began in October, as 20 city centre streets are being decorated. The new Christmas market will be introduced in Gallowtree Gate, operating from November 14 to December 29 and offering treats, gifts, and festive food. Vi Dempster, Assistant city mayor for culture, stated: “Our lighting team is working hard to make sure that Leicester looks magical in time for our big switch-on.” She noted that it’s always a great event, with thousands of people flocking into the city centre and lots going on to help everyone get into the festive spirit. She also remarked: “Leicester has so much to offer, so whether you want to get your shopping done, celebrate with family and friends, or enjoy festive attractions like our ice rink, there’s something for everyone to enjoy this Christmas.” Post navigation Care Home Hosts Wedding Blessing for Resident’s Family Tilted Christmas Tree on Aldeburgh Beach Amuses Residents
