Nicolas Kuhn, who scored Celtic’s fifth goal against Aberdeen, indicated that Celtic still possesses areas for enhancement despite their commanding 6-0 defeat of Aberdeen—described as Scotland’s other in-form team—to secure a place in the League Cup final. The 24-year-old winger contributed the fifth goal at Hampden, thereby setting the stage for a final encounter with either Motherwell or the reigning champions, Rangers. “I think, if you win 6-0, you don’t have to play better, but of course there are things to improve and we are going to do that,” Kuhn communicated to BBC Scotland. This win brought an end to Aberdeen’s 16-game unbeaten streak since manager Jimmy Thelin’s arrival this summer, while simultaneously extending Celtic’s own domestic unbeaten run to 13 matches. The Dons are the sole Scottish side to have denied Celtic a victory, having recovered from a two-goal deficit to achieve a 2-2 draw in Glasgow last month. When questioned if that Premiership fixture was on his team’s minds, Kuhn responded: “Not too much, but we all knew we had to do better and today was the cup and the goal was to get into the final.” “We learned our lesson from the league game against them and today we scored some good goals.” The German player expressed no apprehension that the result would convey a message to their league adversaries. “I think it can be a statement, but we just did really well and we focus on us,” Kuhn further remarked. “There is a still a long way to go, but we are going to focus on ourselves and, if we keep performing like this, everything is in our hands.”
