The KinoSonic festival, a three-day event dedicated to film, music, and sound creation, is scheduled to make its return to Surrey this weekend. It will be held at the Farnham Maltings creative arts centre, running from Friday through Sunday. Organized in collaboration with the University for the Creative Arts (UCA), the festival aims to cultivate creativity via a varied schedule encompassing performances, film screenings, workshops, and networking opportunities. Peter Glanville, CEO of Farnham Maltings, stated, “Whether you’re a cinephile, a music lover or simply curious to explore new artistic frontiers, there’s something for everyone.” Key events at KinoSonic 2024 are set to feature the four-piece band Minima, who will provide a live musical accompaniment to Alfred Hitchcock’s seminal 1927 silent movie The Lodger. Also scheduled are conversations with renowned filmmakers Robert Morgan and Peter Strickland, alongside a unique Q&A session with musician and filmmaker Natasha Khan, recognized as Bat for Lashes, which will follow a showing of her film The Dream of Delphi – A New Transmission. Additionally, the BBC Big Band is slated to present a concert featuring memorable film scores spanning eight decades of cinematic history. The festival will also host a BFI Network Showcase of short films and present immersive audio-visual installations created by Dr William Bishop-Stephens and UCA’s Sea of Cables. Furthermore, attendees can participate in workshops covering subjects like Foley sound effects, film scoring, and the creation of experimental music.
